Here’s the third and final piece in a new mixed media painting series entitled Quantum Poetica: “First Mother Tongue.”
If you missed the first two poetry paintings, here’s a reflective look at “Actions Birth Sound” as well as “i do do i i do.” All three paintings are available in the shop as original canvas purchases or high-fidelity prints.
This piece took a life of its own:

Coincidentally, this was the first painting I made in the series. I decided to place it third after completing the other two.
I am beginning to recognize the thrill I have with stitching together chaotic elements. The background is the most engaging place for me, which comes as no surprise as it was also the most engaging to paint.
The typewritten pieces–the poem, the bits of a poem–fit together in a more tangible way than the other two paintings. It is a bit like wrestling, patterning glue with typewritten paper onto acrylic and canvas. I am less well-versed in the archival process than most, so I often wonder what will become of these pieces after 10 years, 50 years, 100 years. Will the typewritten bits peel off? The text fade? I don’t know. I hope it stays.
Thanks for reading my normally private reflections on the creative process. If you have a moment to comment or send me an email, I would love to hear your thoughts.
In the meantime, you can view the rest of my paintings in the Typewriter Poetry shop, and even place an order for the original canvas or a high-resolution print:
